About E3 Fleet
E3 Fleet is a unique, made-in-Canada program that helps public and private sector fleets of vehicles meet green standards for performance. E3 Fleet members gain access to helpful information, tools and resources, and two unique services:
Looking BackThe E3 Fleet concept emerged just over five years ago thanks to some blue sky – or rather clear sky – thinking. Everyone then recognized green building practices through such programs as LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). The question arose: Could green transportation be recognized and encouraged in a similar way? The Fraser Basin Council, a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainability, was already active on green fleet initiatives in British Columbia. Ready to take the next step, the Council began working with some of Canada’s leading fleet managers to plan the E3 Fleet program – the first of its kind in North America. E3 stands for Energy, Environment, and Excellence – and that is the core focus of the program. The intent is to green up Canada’s fleets by helping managers tackle the tough issues – how to reduce operating costs, lower harmful emissions and increase efficiency. It is also the only program to recognize excellence in green performance. Launch of E3 Fleet![]() E3 Fleet launch, 2006 Momentum built quickly. The E3 Fleet program was formally launched in 2006 with 17 charter members, including municipalities, utilities and urban delivery companies, who together operated more than 15,000 vehicles. The Fraser Basin Council thanks these early supporters: Auto-Gas Propane, BC Hydro, BC Ministry of Environment, City of Coquitlam, Corporation of Delta, Enbridge, City of Hamilton, Hydro One (Ontario), City of Kelowna, Township of Langley, District of Maple Ridge, City of North Vancouver, Novex Couriers, City of Prince George, District of Saanich, University of BC and Municipality of Whistler. The Road ForwardMomentum continues to build. Today the E3 Fleet program has 120 public and private sector member organizations or divisions, operating more than 50,000 vehicles. Many E3 members are preparing for or participating in Fleet Review, and to date eight fleets have earned E3 Ratings – four Gold Ratings and four Silver Ratings. Take a look! |
