The Idling Cost Calculator is designed to help estimate the financial and environmental costs of unnecessary vehicle idling, based on the types of vehicles you have and their present operating conditions. The calculator can also be used to estimate the cost savings and return on investment for idling reduction technologies such as cab heaters, engine block heaters, and  auxiliary power units (APUs).
 
Many fleets have been able to reduce fuel consumption by 10 to 15% simply by reducing unnecessary idling.
