LIFECYCLE ANALYSIS

One of the most common questions fleets are faced with is "when should I replace my vehicles?" In the past, fleet managers often used rules of thumb and replaced vehicles using a schedule. However, this may not provide optimal financial and environmental performance. The vehicles may be replaced too soon, resulting in increased capital expenses, or too late, resulting in higher than necessary maintenance and repair costs as well as increased emissions.

Another conundrum often faced by a fleet manager is that there may be several vehicles with different capital costs, fuel efficiency and environmental performance that meets the fleet's functional requirements. How does a fleet manager decide among these different options?

The solution is lifecycle analysis, which provides a way of comparing the lifecycle capital and operating costs for a vehicle. The analysis also provides optimal timing for replacement, based on a particular vehicle's anticipated use. E3 Fleet has developed a lifecycle analysis tool, and can provide customized lifecycle analysis for your fleet. Contact us to find out more.

"Without data a fleet doesn’t know where it’s been. Fleet Review will use a fleet's data to tell a fleet where it’s been, where it'’s going, how to be a lot greener and the cost of getting there”

- Roger Smith, former Manager, Toronto Hydro fleet
